Hey! I’m Phoebe from Carabiner Creates, a British-German Illustrator and Crochet Artist. In my work I address topics of social justice and environmental issues such as topics within the LGBTQIA+ community and climate change. I am passionate about spreading not just awareness but also joy with my work.
Most of my process is traditional because making something with my hands makes me feel like I have purpose and can make a difference with what I do. Seeing people find joy in my art makes me feel happy and fuels my want to create.
I value having lots of textures in my work which is why I use water colours to create textures that I then collage with. To add more texture and detail I finish my collages with coloured pencils. Often I make my collages modular so that I can easily collage and change the composition or elements digitally.
As I make a lot of educational artwork I spend a lot of time researching so that I can correctly convey the information I am presenting.
My work mostly targets people that are wanting to learn more about the issues that I am addressing, which most of the time are politically left leaning people. My audience is mainly women and the lgbt community due to the nature of the topics that I discuss.
